Galeria

Today I visited the latest shopping centre to arrive in the city. Galeria is located in the first four floors of the European Trade Center. There are about 70 shops including well known names such as Benetton and Nike. Of greater interest to us is the soon to open supermarket from the Italian Conad chain. Since the demise of the Xhea markets we have had little choice but to drive out to Euromax. Now it seems that we might well have a new option in the heart of the city - the ETC is at the junction of Bajram Curri and Lek Dukagjini for those who know Tirana.

I'm not a big fan of shopping or shopping centres but this is definitely a great addition to the city. It is clean, bright, airy, nicely designed and remarkably smoke free - so far. As well as the shops it has cafes on all four floors. Since the complex is air-conditioned I imagine these will be nice places to escape from the summer heat.

it is located in Albania, capital city Tirana, in the center, near the so called "Piramida" that is found on the main Boulevard "Deshmoret e Kombit"

At the heart of the problems around this election is the unwarranted influence of political parties on all aspects of the electoral process. Every institution responsible for organising and facilitating the election is under the control of political parties. The Electoral Code itself was heavily revised only days before the original date for the elections and only weeks before the actual date (Law 9676 13 January 2007). Big in Albania

Ask me how much I knew about Albania before coming here and my list would be a short one: Enver Hoxha, bunkers and Sir Norman Wisdom. I have no idea when or how I acquired this extensive body of knowledge, but the association of Norman Wisdom with Albania was by far the most interesting part of it. I remember watching Norman Wisdom's old films on British television. My parents were fans of his wholesome, slapstick comedy, but apparently missed the ideological significance of Pitkin's relationship with Mr Grimsdale. Pitkin, the downtrodden and oppressed representative of the workers, triumphed every time over his capitalist oppressor, Mr Grimsdale - and he got the girl. It took a theorist of Hoxha's insight and profundity to discern this deeper political message.
